Mountaineer racetrack holds races from March until late December. In total, there is usually 32 race days per year. The most well known race is the $750,000 Grade II West Virginia Derby which takes places in August every year.
This track has existed since 1951. After the introduction of slot machines in the late 1990s, enough funds were accumulated to give the race track and its adjoining facilities a much needed update. This in turned increased the number of visitors, as well as the size of the purses, and the Mountaineer Race Track received a renewed interest from top-notch riders, trainers and horse owners.
There is a free shuttle service between the casino and the race track during racing hours.
If it’s the wrong time of the year but you still want to bet on races, we suggest you go over to the simulcast lounge by the Grandstand. In this lounge, you can bet on and watch races live from all over the country and beyond. The lounge is open year round.
